New arrival at East Midlands Airport for bmibaby
The bmibaby team at East Midlands Airport are travelling in green style after investing in an electric car.
The low cost airline has purchased a Nissan Leaf electric car to replace the vehicle currently used by the ground dispatch team at its hub. The car will now play a major part in bmibaby’s operations at East Midlands Airport. The car will be used for transporting dispatchers between aircraft, taking crew to aircraft, and for use for travel between East Midlands Airport and bmibaby’s head office at Castle Donington.
After two months of anticipation, bmibaby took delivery of the car last week to the delight of the team. The team were given a number of driving lessons by the Motor Transport Department.
East Midlands Airport has supported the car as part of its carbon neutral aspirations by providing charging points. The car is 100 percent electric and can run up to 109 miles before it needs to be charged again. The Nissan charges overnight with a standard domestic plug.
Julian Carr, managing director, bmibaby, said:
“The bmibaby team at East Midlands Airport are pleased with the arrival of the electric car; it’s a significant investment as part of bmibaby’s ongoing commitment to our corporate social responsibility policy. The help we have received from East Midlands Airport has meant this innovative partnership. will help benefit bmibaby and the airport.”
Neil Robinson, Director of Sustainability, East Midlands Airport said:
“bmibaby is the first of our partners to invest in the new generation of electric vehicles and we’re delighted to be able to support their project, which is in line with our own commitment of making ground operations carbon neutral by 2012. “
